Poetry

My book, The Soul Tree: Poems and Photographs of the Southern Appalachians, features the gorgeous photography of John Fletcher Jr. and the poems I wrote to them and to the beauty that inspired them. The book received the first Okra Pick Award of the Southern Independent Booksellers Association. It also won me the title of Poet Laureate of the Blue Ridge Parkway. This book was published in 2009 by Grateful Steps Publishing in Asheville.

Architectural History

I wrote Look Up Asheville I and II, both published by Grateful Steps Publishing in Asheville. Another collaboration with a photographer, the books feature Asheville’s eclectic collection of late 19th century architecture to the present. The book received awards from the North Carolina Society of Historians.
