I was born in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. My family moved to Toronto six weeks later. Two years later we moved to London, England, and returned to Toronto three years later. We moved to Asheville, North Carolina, three years after that, to Tampa, Florida, for ten months then to Sarasota where I lived my adolescence before completing undergraduate at Rollins in Winter Park, Florida, where I could visit my dying grandmother and listen to her stories of being a prisoner-of-war in China. After college, I lived in Australia for a year learning to be a writer from the novelist, Carmel Bird, and the poet, TT.O., among others. I returned to Asheville where I have lived, with one two-year stint in the Pacific Northwest then a brief time in West Lafayette, Indiana, since 1998. I have raised my daughter in one house for twenty years.
